Philip Jackson of city living specialist estate agent Maguire Jackson comments:
“People are increasingly looking to rent two-bedroom apartments and there just aren’t any on the market in Birmingham city centre.
“City living is alive and well, as demand for such properties shows. It’s primarily young people who live in the city and they look to share to make it more affordable. Double-bedroomed apartments make this possible and they’re just not coming onto the lettings market.
“This current shortage is lifting rents in the city centre which is bad news for those looking to relocate to the city but great for both property investors and the city.
“Although recent talk has suggested that Birmingham may no longer be perceived as the second city, this development in the property market shows that people, and therefore economic wealth, are still pouring into the city.”
